MaPaW stands for Memorize a Passage a Week

Why memorize Bible passages?

It is precious

The law of your mouth is better to me than thousands of gold and silver pieces.

- Psalm 119:72

It is alive and heart changing

For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.

- Hebrews 4:12

It is what helps man live

But he answered, “It is written, “‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.’”

- Matthew 4:4

It’s hard to memorize scripture in this day and age

With the advent of the information super highway (the world wide web) there is so much information available to us as individuals. This presents us with an ever growing problem that has not been faced in the past, namely, that we need to choose wisely what the best information for us will be. With websites all over the internet to gather and deliver encyclopaedic knowledge, social information, advertising information, game details, recreational activities, geographical information and news our time is taken up a large amount of information that simple wasn’t available to us in the past so easily.  Memorizing God’s word needs to be intentional or it will be clouded out by every other interesting available service this information age has to offer.

We should be using the tools of the day to help us in our walk with God

If we do not use the information managing tools of the day to transmit Gods precious words, it will slowly become forgotten. God’s active and living word is still active and living today and as such it should be presented to the citizens of the information age with vigour and fervour using methods that have been known to work in today’s society. Using dynamic web pages, email and other internet based technologies the MaPaw project aims to help Christians memorize God’s words in the most effective manner possible today.

The MaPaW project aims to help Christians memorize one passage a week using up to date technologies.

How does it work?

To get the most out of the MaPaW project users will need to “sign up” to the site. Once signed up they will have the ability to attempt to remember passages.

A new passage will be chosen each week.

On the Monday of that week, the passage will be in full and the “Read Verse” button will need to be clicked. On the Tuesday of that week the passage will have approx 25% of words missing and the user will need to fill in the missing words and click the submit button. On the Wednesday of that week the passage will have approx 50% of words missing and the user will need to fill in the missing words and click the submit button. On the Thursday of that week the passage will have approx 75% of words missing and the user will need to fill in the missing words and click the submit button. On the Friday of that week the passage will have approx all of the words missing and the user will need to fill in the missing words and click the submit button.

Users will be ranked and a position will be calculated along with other stats that are available in the “My Stats” section of the site for logged in users.
